Percussion Repertoire by Asian Composers Database

Percussion Repertoire by Asian Composers Database

Written by William Newton

Background

This is a project that was completed as part of an independent study at the Eastman School of Music by Filipino-American Percussionist William Newton. This project was undertaken with the goal of continuing the diversification of percussion repertoire.

With this in mind, we ask for the following when utilizing this database:

  1. Avoid tokenizing Asian composers when programming these works.
  2. Explore more of the composer’s repertoire and background when programming these works.
  3. Share this database with friends and colleagues, particularly if they are composers of Asian descent.
  4. Submit new works and edits when applicable.

Submissions and Edits

Currently we are not taking submissions for this database. We are rebuilding this database on the Notion platform to allow for a more streamlined submission process!

More Resources

Finally, we want to give a big thank you to Percussionists McKayla Phillips and Jack Kloecker who designed the Percussion Pieces by Black Composers Database which this is modeled after.
