4/2/1965 is a duet for vibraphone, multi-percussion, and electronics. A realization of a childhood poem by my father Robert “Bob” Spearman, each musical moment in the piece reflects a couplet within the poem. I generated material for the vibraphone music using the date of the poem, my father’s name, improvisation, and timbral exploration. 4/2/1965 was commissioned by Nashville percussionist Kramer Sell, my good friend and duo partner, and premiered by JS…KS Percussion Duo at Belmont University on June 30th, 2021.
Instrumentation:
- Prepared Vibraphone
- Drum Set: Kick drum, snare drum, mounted tom, floor tom, ride cymbal, crash cymbal, special fx cymbal, and suspended bell plate
