Anak translates to “Child” in tagalog, my mother’s native language. It is a word I heard often as a child, as she called me and my two sister’s anak any time she needed to get our attention. It is a word I associate with love, family, and home.
Recently, my wife and I were blessed with a baby boy in June of 2025. I wanted to write a piece that encapsulates the love I have for the newest member of our family Jude Shockley-Newton.
