La Mancha is a nod to Miguel de Cervantes's novel Don Quixote. The title refers to the region the story takes place in, a rural area roughly a 2-hour drive outside of Madrid, particularly known for a certain hill with windmills. This chamber piece attempts to capture the essence of Don Quixote and Sancha Panza's bizarre adventures which have stood the test of time.
The original mixed chamber version was premiered on November 17, 2021 by the Illinois Modern Ensemble in Foellinger Great Hall at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, Urbana, IL.
