Description

Duration: 5 minutes

Phthalo (the shortened term for phthalocyanine) is a family of synthetic pigments known for producing deep shades of green and blue. This piece was named after this color family, and more specifically of the green variants, due to the dark tone throughout the work. The piece was originally written to add to the more “serious” two-mallet repertoire, which felt somewhat neglected compared to its four-mallet counterpart. Phthalo is broken up into two distinct sections, with the “A” section reflecting the dark shades that the phthalo family can produce, while the “B” section is more minimalistic and is meant to reflect the soothing aspects of these rich color schemes.
