Description

4.3 Marimba Solo
This piece is based on the notion of one’s life flashing before their eyes before they pass. The different sections of the piece are meant to represent different stages in one’s life, some building tension and some releasing tension. I wrote this piece based on a fictional character, but can easily be related to one’s own life or anyone else’s. Intermediate in difficulty, I believe the bulk of the challenge regarding this piece is deciding how you want to express and interpret the ideas presented to you. For example, the Molto Rubato section does not contain tempo markings or phrasing to allow for such interpretation to occur. I recommend medium to medium-hard mallets, as this piece uses the entire range of a 4.3 octave marimba.
