Large Percussion Ensemble (11 to 14 Players)
Written in 2023, “The Birth of Falling Stars” is my first big percussion ensemble composition and was written for the Radford High School percussion ensemble.
Growing up, I was in awe of the Jazz Fusion genre and this piece is inspired by the music of Snarky Puppy, Gabrielle Pribetti, and Tigran Hamasayan. The complexity of harmonic and rhythmic motifs has always been very attractive to me and this piece is my way of recreating that on a more digestible scale for percussion ensemble.
This piece is full of elements of jazz and progressive rock music. I also took in mind that many percussion ensemble programs have students in various places in their development and each part has a different level of difficulty without it sounding obvious.
