Whisps was completed at the beginning of my summer break, a time where I get to pursue my hobby of fishing far more often than in the regular school year. The programmatic aspect of this piece comes from my fishing trips that start in the early hours of the morning. For a short while before and after sun rise, the fog looks like little whisps of smoke coming off the water’s surface. This piece started out as a miniature etude designed around playing different types of rolls but quickly evolved into a fully realized marimba solo. Written for the beginner to intermediate performer, this piece is a beautiful change of pace for any solo recital.
