Starshine by Brant Blackard
For Prepared Vibraphone
Starshine (2021) was written for and premiered by my good friend and excellent percussionist Hannah Weaver. The four sections of the piece are each signaled by the opening motive, sometimes altered or transposed. The aimless, weightless feeling of the piece, combined with instances of bitonality and/or rhythmically/metrically independent voices, is my attempt at expressing the mysterious melancholy of space.
